Larry’s Lines. . . .

By Larry Murphy, Executive Director

In Matthew 4:19, we read, “Come follow me,” Jesus said, and I will send you out to fish for people.”  Also in Acts 16:9-10, we read, During the night Paul had a vision of a man of Macedonia standing and begging him, “Come over to Macedonia and help us.”  After Paul had seen the vision, we got ready at ONCE to leave for Macedonia, concluding that God had called us to preach the gospel to them.”

The theme this year for both Madison-Chester and Crockett Annual Meetings is “Partnering with Someone Missional Somewhere.”

A key phrase in Acts 16:10 is “we got ready at once to leave for Macedonia.”  For those of you who love history and practical application, here is an example of both:

Minuteman:  A civilian colonist who independently organized to form well-prepared militia companies, self-trained in weaponry, tactics and military strategies from the American colonial partisan militia during the American Revolutionary War.  They were also known for being ready at a minutes notice, hence the name.  At once they were ready to go and fight.

We are in a battle today fighting against the principles of darkness.  The scripture in Ephesians 6:11 tells us to “put on the whole armor of God that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.”

We should at once and in a moment’s notice through our friendships, teaching, missions and our work be prepared to fish for people.  We can do this by “partnering with someone missional somewhere.”

I hope to see you at your Crockett Association Annual Meeting at Cross Roads Baptist Church.  The meeting is scheduled for Sunday, October 13, and will begin with a meal at 5:30 p.m. followed by the service at 6:30 p.m.  Pray for Matt Tullos, Stewardship Development, Tennessee Baptist Mission Board, who will be preaching for us.

The Madison-Chester Association Annual Meeting will be held at Hillcrest Baptist Church on Tuesday, October 22.  The meeting will begin at 5:45 p.m. with a meal followed by the service at 6:30 p.m.  Pray for Justin Hiens, pastor of Second Baptist Church, Union City, Tennessee, who will be preaching.

Praying for all of you.
